The challenge
The Bangalore Development Authority started an affordable housing project for lower and middle income families at Alur, near Makali on Tumkur Road. New Zealand precast technology was used to build 1520 one and two bedroom flats in 48 blocks. All joints between the precast elements, horizontal and vertical, had to be sealed. Joint widths were 10 to 25 mm, with a maximum allowable movement of 5%. Each block has about 1300 linear metres of joint.
The DCP solution
DCP recommended Flexseal C100, a two component, polymer modified, elastomeric acrylic cementitious sealant. It is designed for sealing joints between precast elements in both horizontal and vertical positions. It suited this project because it accommodates anticipated joint movement up to 5% and also seals cracks in concrete and masonry. DCP introduced the product for this project.
DCP products used
- Flexseal C100
How it was applied
Flexseal C100 was used to seal all horizontal and vertical joints between the precast elements of the towers, in joint widths of 10 to 25 mm.
The result
At the time of the case study, 10 of the 48 blocks had been completed.
