The challenge

Castello Precast designs and builds industrial buildings and makes its own precast and reinforced concrete elements, such as beams, columns and panels. Small holes and pores appeared on the surfaces of the elements, with some minor areas of honeycombed concrete. Roof elements are up to 36 m long, and on such large visible surfaces it was hard to get a fair face that met investors' expectations. Castello wanted a fine, easy to apply, low shrinkage material close to the colour of concrete. Materials it had tried did not give a satisfactory result.

The DCP solution

The DCP technical team proposed a fairing coat to fill minor blowholes and defects and repair surface imperfections. Cemfair PF is a thixotropic, one component cementitious mortar with high adhesion to concrete. It needs only the addition of water and is easy to apply. One application gives a uniform, fair faced surface ready for a paint finish.

How it was applied

  1. Mix Cemfair PF with water.
  2. Apply it over the precast surface to fill blowholes, pores and minor defects in a single application.
  3. Leave a uniform surface ready for the paint finish.

The result

Pitted precast surfaces were made smooth and uniform with Cemfair PF.
