The challenge
Dheeraj Realty was building a residential project in Wagholi with expansion joints in internal flat areas, between building extensions and on terraces. On earlier projects, conventional joint systems had failed because of their rigidity and poor durability, causing leaks and long-running waterproofing problems. DCP was asked for a system for both internal and external joints.
The DCP solution
For external joints, DCP proposed a polysulphide sealant system: Flexprime PS100 primer, pourable Flexseal PS660 sealant and Hydroseal FS polyolefin joint tape fixed with Quickmast 341 thixotropic adhesive. For internal joints, DCP proposed Flexseal PU440, a flexible single component polyurethane sealant, covered with a self adhesive butyl tape. Both joint types were 50 mm wide, sealed at a width to depth ratio of 2:1.
DCP products used
How it was applied
- Insert a polystyrene backer rod or single component waterproof polyurethane foam to set the sealant depth at up to 25 mm.
- External joints: prime with polysulphide primer PS100, fill with pourable Flexseal PS660, then bond Hydroseal FS joint tape over the joint with Quickmast 341.
- Internal joints: fill with Flexseal PU440 by caulking gun, then press a self adhesive butyl tape evenly over the joint.
