The challenge
The former Gramophone Works building in Kensal Rise, London, was being converted into office space. The contractors wanted a polished concrete finish on 3 interior floors, 1000 m2 in total. The existing floors were old terrazzo tiles that had been poorly laid and were in very poor condition.
The DCP solution
The DCP UK technical team proposed Cemflow Topping Pigmented, a self smoothing, dimensionally stable and fast drying cementitious floor topping for renovating new and existing internal floors. It was applied over the existing terrazzo tiles and gave the polished concrete look required. Cemflow Base levelling screed was used to fill deeper areas, and Strongcoat Primer with a quartz blinding gave a mechanical key for the topping.
DCP products used
How it was applied
- Grind and repair the existing terrazzo tiles.
- Deep fill low sections of the floor with 30 mm of Cemflow Base levelling screed.
- Apply 2 coats of Strongcoat Primer, blinding the second coat with quartz to form a mechanical key.
- Apply Cemflow Topping Pigmented.
The result
The topping, applied over the existing terrazzo tiles, achieved the polished concrete look required.
