The challenge
The King Abdullah Financial District project in Riyadh included a multi-storey car park of about 200,000 m². The floor had to take continuous vehicle traffic and give abrasion resistance, slip resistance and long-term protection to the concrete. Slip resistance mattered because the surface can be exposed to dust, water and vehicle fluids. The colour had to stay consistent over the large area, and several colours were needed for parking zones, traffic markings and demarcation. Materials had to meet LEED low VOC requirements. Supply had to keep up with strict delivery deadlines.
The DCP solution
DCP supplied a multi-layer epoxy flooring system for high-traffic car parks. Quickmast 341, a solvent-free epoxy patching compound, filled pinholes and repaired minor defects and irregularities. Strongcoat Primer+ was applied to improve adhesion to the concrete. The main wearing layer was Strongcoat HB400, a solvent-free high-build epoxy floor coating, broadcast with anti-slip aggregate to give a textured, slip-resistant surface. Strongcoat EPU100, an epoxy polyurethane coating, was applied as the finishing layer for extra abrasion resistance and flexibility and resistance to oils, fuels and chemicals. DCP delivered materials direct to site on schedule.
DCP products used
How it was applied
- Repair pinholes, minor defects and irregularities with Quickmast 341.
- Prime with Strongcoat Primer+.
- Apply Strongcoat HB400 and broadcast with Antislip Aggregate #3.
- Finish with Strongcoat EPU100 in the zone and marking colours.
The result
The completed floor gave a durable, slip-resistant and chemically resistant surface, meeting the operational and sustainability requirements. Materials arrived on schedule, so the contractor kept to programme.
