The challenge
The BACS consortium was responsible for the design and build of Lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh Metro. These are part of a six-line network running 176 km across the city with 85 stations. In the deep underground stations, a traffic deck slab is built from steel girders and precast RC elements. The joints between them had to be filled with a material that can transfer and carry heavy dynamic loads. The grout had to give the flow needed on site, meet the specification and drawings, and stay within the budget for this work.
The DCP solution
DCP proposed a system of non-shrink grouts. Flo-Grout 2, a cementitious grout, was used where no dynamic load is expected. Flo-Grout EPCG, an epoxy grout, was used to fill gaps where heavy dynamic loads are expected. The filler content of Flo-Grout EPCG can be adjusted on site to get the right flow and a continuous fill.
DCP products used
How it was applied
- Identify joints that carry heavy dynamic loads and those that do not.
- Fill joints with no dynamic load with Flo-Grout 2.
- Fill joints under heavy dynamic load with Flo-Grout EPCG, adjusting the filler content for flow and continuous fill.
