The challenge
Doha Oasis is a mixed-use development in Musheireb, Doha. VOX Cinemas opened a cinema complex there with two VIP theatres. The designers asked for a decorative floor in the cinema lobbies that was durable, non-slip, sustainable and VOC compliant, with a seamless, hard-wearing finish and a natural appearance.
The DCP solution
DCP supplied Strongcoat Terrazzo, a solvent-free, seamless decorative flooring system. A durable, pigmented epoxy resin binds aggregates such as silica sand, marble chips and coloured or clear glass chips. The system gives low maintenance and lifecycle costs and many design options, including the inlaid patterns used in the lobbies.

How it was applied
- Prime the substrate with Strongcoat Primer.
- Mix the resin with the aggregates and lay the Strongcoat Terrazzo mortar on the primed surface, compacting to thickness.
- After 24 hours, grind mechanically in a slow circular motion to level the surface and expose the aggregate.
- Follow dry grinding with wet grinding for a smooth finish.
- Apply a sealer for the final finish.
