The challenge

Williams Grand Prix Engineering refurbished interior areas of its headquarters in Wantage, turning about 300 m² of toilets and shower facilities into office space. The old use left large cavities in the floor, so it could not take new floor coverings. The floor needed a levelling base screed that could be laid thick under floor coverings. Downtime had to be kept to a minimum, and replacing the concrete floor was to be avoided.

The DCP solution

DCP supplied Cemflow Renovation, a rapid drying, fibre-reinforced self-levelling screed for 5 to 50 mm thickness. It repaired and levelled the floor without a new concrete substrate. Cemflow Primer, a single component polymer primer, was used first to bond the screed to the hardened concrete and to seal the pores so that air release does not cause pinholes. Cemflow Renovation carries the EMICODE EC1 low-emission label.

How it was applied

  1. Prepare and repair the floor.
  2. Dilute Cemflow Primer with clean potable water and apply two coats; let it dry.
  3. Mix Cemflow Renovation at 25 kg of powder to 4.0 to 4.5 L of potable water.
  4. Hand apply at 10 mm thickness in one pass.
  5. Install carpet after 24 hours.

The result

The carpet was laid after 24 hours, and the floor refurbishment was finished within the agreed 4-day deadline.
